I just ran across a site that I wish I had thought up. Part social networking, part customer affinity-building and part psychographic research, wewanttoknow.net invites “engineers who love karaoke, developers who help build houses in Guatemala, ITPros who are novelists” to engage. The main mechanism for engagement is uploading videos, which range from people performing to talking about themselves to showing their digital photos – and more. It’s sponsored by Microsoft, and run by the folks at TechWeb (CMP).
I don’t know much more about it, like how it’s performing, but on the surface, it seems like a great idea. Get folks to engage, which has them feeling connected and invested, and in the meantime, learn a great deal about what makes your target audience tick, which you can then use to inform marketing programs. Brilliant.
