The Magic of Design Unveiled
I’m no graphic designer, but whenever our creative department unveils a new concept, I’m always amazed. They turn an abstract idea and a few conversations with the client into a visual representation of everything we’ve talked about. And it makes sense. And it is BEAUTIFUL. Case in point: here, and here and here.
I’ve always thought of the creative department as magical.
And yet I came across the following presentation posted by the Master of 500 Hats, aka Dave McClure, that best describes this magical process. And it’s easy – the main message is to keep it simple. Define the problem first and this will lead you to the solution. And always keep in mind you are communicating with people, so make it about them.
I especially like the hammer comparison – nobody wants a hammer, they want a deck. Make your design about one of the solutions to getting that deck.
Or, in our case, designers want options for overcoming their design challenges. So show them those options.
